Spelling Bee The Annual Adult Spelling Bee is held in November in the Great Hall of Johnston Community College. This fun event utilizes team spelling and each team spells every word. How is it a fund raiser? If a team can't spell a word, a small bribe of $20 to their judge allows them to stay in the game! (Bribes are accepted through the easy word round, the intermediate word round, and the first half of the difficult word round.) In 2003, Southern Piping joined us as the Event Sponsor. Many thanks for their continued support of the Johnston County Education Foundation. Ned "The Tack" Attayek serves as our emcee and expert word pronouncer for the evening. Teams are encouraged to pick a theme and dress to reflect that theme. An award is given each year to the team with the best costume. Teams are also encouraged to cheer themselves on. An award is given for the team with the best spirit. Plaques were awarded for the first time to the teams that lasted the longest in the various categories:. Student, Business / Industry, Educators, Financial Institution, and Open Category. Some of the words from our past Bees are: If you and 3 teammates can spell these words, give us a call and sign up for the next Adult Spelling Bee! |
